Zach and Tommy are unimpressed. Saying it’s normal street meat. I think they are too full to adequately judge.
For me, 53rd and 6th during the day is the best, then this, and 53rd and 6th at night is below both.
The XPL truck is missing. I guess it’s closed on the weekend.
In the end, I am full so I’m not too upset.
One more to go. We are all struggling. XPL… we may skip you.
Reflections on Schnippers Quality Kitchen
Schnippers was a pleasant surprise. The Mac and Joe was very good. Mac was cheesy and not too liquidy an all too common mistake. Breadcrumbs on top were a nice surprise. The Joe was really good also. I’m partial to a sweeter tomato sauce so it was right up my alley. The onion rings were a little oily but crunchy and there was a good onion portion in there. I would definitely come back here....
Zach upset. They charge for BBQ sauce. We didn’t order any.
Deep Thoughts on Schnitzel & Things
Good schnitzel is so delicious. And we were all looking forward to this stop. The veal schnitzel didn’t look like it was made fresh and didn’t really taste good or like anything at all. The bread really overwhelmed the veal. The eggplant was ok though. The schnitzel burger I thought was better because it was actually hot. The siracha mayo was too much and took away from the burger....
Reflections on Burger Joint
Burger joint deserves to be up there with the top burgers in the city. The meat was juicy and the bun soft and chewy. This is an all American classic burger and I could eat several of them. It is hard to compare it directly to a Pauls or a shake shack because they are completely different styles. One covered in toppings and the other thinner and crispy.
BJ is overall a juicy good burger.
And Schnippers is next. Hopefully it is better.
Honestly don’t understand the appeal if this place. The truck must be better. It’s always so crowded.
On to the next one. Schnitzel here we come.
Fries are pretty good - McDonalds style. Superior to the crinkle cut fries at Shake Shack.
We ordered a cheeseburger with tomatoes, onions, ketchup and mayo. One burger with the works (also add mustard and pickles) and a fries and pitcher of Stella.
And it begins. 65 degrees and sunny. Great day and now we are off to the Burger Joint at the Parker Meridien.
Food Crawl 19
Spring has finally arrived and the weather is great. To celebrate, we will be going on our 19th Food Crawl. As always, the itinerary is subject to change.
1) Burger Joint (118 W 57th St nr 6th Ave)
2) Schnitzel & Things for a Schnitzel Burger (723 3rd Ave nr 45th St)
3) Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen for a Sloppy Joe (620 8th Ave nr 40th St)
4) XPL for chicken and lamb...
Food Crawl Final Thoughts
Rob -
1) Brindle Room - if you want the best burger in the city then go to the Spotted Pig. If you want a great burger and you don’t feel like spending $20 and waiting for 2 hours, then go to the Brindle Room.
2) Prosperity Dumpling - the boiled dumplings are good… but skip them. Instead, order the fried dumplings, apply a healthy amount of siracha, and then dig in. At $1 for 5...

And that’s it for the day. Very enjoyable and thanks to all involved.
Reflections on Lukes Lobster
Delicious fresh clean tasting seafood. Also it’s awesome that the whole place smells like butter and the door is open. Lobster was far superior to the crab roll but it says how awesome the lobster roll was because the crab roll was great also. Very light mayo and crispy buttered roll. We all agreed it was one of the best lobster rolls we have eaten.
Approaching 7th between 1st and A. So excited… it’s my favorite street. Caracas Arepa, Luke’s, Porchetta, Pylos, Taureau, Kyo Ya. Yay.
Off to our final spot. So far, I feel good. I’m surprised. I’m usually barely able to walk at this point in a crawl because I am so full.
Reflections on Bowery Beef
Great roast beef sandwich. Thinly sliced meat, good soft bun and surprising and excellent BBQ sauce. It was spicy, vinegary Texas style. Only issue we had was the non melted cheese. Would have been great with a melty piece on top, but at least the non melted cheese was intentional, so not as bad as an execution error. Not sure if I would come back for it, but definitely worth a try.
Reflections on Prosperity Dumpling
Best dumplings around. Fried were better than boiled but the boiled dumplings were great especially because of the soup like remainder left in the bowl from the boiling liquid. The pork was juicy and delicious. Even the vegetable dumplings were good. If we had a do-over would have gotten 2 no 3 orders o fried pork dumps. So good. Rob had to stop me from ordering another.
I prefer the fried. Just a lot crispier.
They sell frozen dumplings by the 50. It is the best deal in the city and costs like $16. I usually keep a bag of the dumplings at home and fry some up whenever I am hungry. My roommates appreciate that.
